Quiet exhausts Bit of background info on the model; The T140V was Triumph's answer to increasing competition from the Japanese and the growing availability of larger capacity head kits from the USA. This was effectively the T120's 650cc engine bored out, initially to 724cc but then increased to 744cc with engine number XH22019 (January 1973) to put it firmly in the 750cc class. Manufacturing started on 20th September 1972. The gearbox was also upgraded with an extra gear over the 4-speed T120. The bike was also given a front disc brake, though the rear stayed as a drum until 1976 when it was upgraded to a disc. Early production was disrupted by the strike at the Meriden factory over the planned closure of the plant, but resumed in the spring of 1975 with the Meriden Cooperative. The bike was exported to the USA as the T140RV with engine modifications to meet the US market requirements, and the gear change lever switched to the left hand side. This bike spawned a series of 'T140' designated models such as the T140J in 1977, T140D, T140E and T140ES in 1979, T140LE in 1981, T140W and T140 TSX in 1982.
